Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge is Portland’s first official wildlife refuge and a critical wetland ecosystem located along the east bank of the Willamette River. It features a mosaic of habitats -marshes, meadows, and woodlands – that support over 175 bird species, including great blue herons and bald eagles. The Springwater Corridor Trail runs through the refuge, offering visitors a scenic biking and walking path with outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities. It’s one of the best spots in Portland for birdwatching and nature photography, all within sight of the downtown skyline.
